Ocean Beach San Francisco
|
This popular beach stretches four miles of sandy shoreline. The water is cold and the undertow is very dangerous, so swimming is not allowed. Often you can watch hardy surfers tackle the waves. At the north end of the beach, the Cliff House is perched high above the shore and includes a rare camera obscura, the Musee Mechanique with a collection of vintage coin-operated devices,, and popular restaurants. A four-mile walk down the beach or along Ocean Beach Esplanade, an adjacent paved walkway, or a short drive along Great Highway brings you to Fort Funston, with a wooden observation deck built into the hillside. Stop into the Beach Chalet, on the ocean end of Golden Gate Park at 35th Avenue at Great Highway, where the Visitors Center is stocked with informational pamphlets and maps. The brew-pub upstairs offers food, libations and great views. |
Four miles of broad, sandy beaches stretch out to welcome visitors to Half Moon Bay. This picturesque setting is ideal for sunbathing, fishing and picnicking. |
